R.S. is an 87-year-old male living alone.
He relies on his granddaughter for many things, but she works full time and has difficulty assisting him. He suffers from congestive heart failure and has much impairment related to an unsteady gait, hip and back pain and joint stiffness. He also has chronic incontinence and he is diabetic.
R.S. has been able to fulfill his wish to avoid institutionalization and remain at home with the help of PASSPORT services. His Personal Care Aide provides hands-on assistance with locomotion, bathing, hair care and dressing. The aide also assists him with changing his incontinent undergarments. R.S. says that it usually takes him an hour to do this by himself.
In addition to personal care service, PASSPORT also provided R.S. with a lift chair. R.S. has made it clear that he could not live alone without this necessary device, even if it appears to be a luxury to some who don't understand why he has it. R.S. continually expresses his gratitude for the PASSPORT services.
