Client Stories

B had lived alone in her own home until she started becoming confused and disoriented.

B's only son was worried about her wellbeing and took her to see her medical doctor who diagnosed her with Alzheimer's and dementia. B's son was upset and concerned and asked the doctor what he should do and how he could help her. B's doctor suggested that she be placed in a nursing facility where she would receive 24 hour supervision and where the son would not have to worry about her. B's son did not like the idea of taking his mother out of her home that she loved so much and had lived in for the past 30 years so he moved in with her. Although B's son was now living with her in her home and helping out as much as he could, he had to work during the day, which meant that B was still home alone most of the day and her son was quickly becoming overwhelmed with his new responsibility. B's son was told by another doctor's office about the PASSPORT Program and he decided to call. He was pleasantly surprised when he found out the extent of services PASSPORT offered and thought that it would help keep his mother home as long as possible. B started attending Adult Day Care 5 days a week for 8 hours while her son worked. B had a personal care aide in the mornings to help her get a bath and get ready for day care and an aide in the evenings to help get dinner after day care. Between adult day care, personal care aides and the son, B had the 24 hours of supervision that was needed. B's son felt that without the services of PASSPORT, B would definitely be in a nursing facility.
